Bit W3 - Jonathan Field Horsemanship/Myler Black Steel 7’ Medium Shank, 5” Sweet Iron Mouthpiece, with a Medium Wide, Ported Barrel with rotation limiter, ¾” port height.  

Bit W3 is the mildest Myler mouthpiece in terms of tongue pressure. The generously wide port allows room for the tongue to pass almost completely under the bit. Because this mouthpiece does not rotate on to the tongue and the port is wide, it applies little to no tongue pressure, working primarily off the lips and bars. The port on this mouthpiece is only ¾” high, so it will apply little to no palate pressure. Because the Bit E3 offers such a high degree of tongue relief, the horse that goes well in this mouthpiece has a consistent disposition and knows to work off the seat and leg with refined rein use. Sweet iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation.

The shank is a length of flat black steel curved slightly back towards the horse, with a teardrop purchase and a rein ring. The mouthpiece has a fixed attachment to the cheek with a decorative “stack.” The shank is decorated with stainless steel dots. The purchase is angled slightly away from the cheek to avoid rubbing. The black steel will discolor over time to an antique brown.

The flat shank is an indirect (curb) rein action designed to be used with a curb strap which attaches to the purchase. This shank uses the combination of fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin and poll.

Rotation Limiter: The barrel in this bit features a unique limiter inside that restricts the shanks to approximately a 3-inch swing or lift. This innovative design is particularly beneficial as you progress towards finesse and precision in your riding. By limiting the independent side movement, the bit promotes steady, clear communication with your horse. This allows for more accurate cues and a stronger connection between horse and rider, ultimately leading to a harmonious partnership and enhanced performance.
