Western Bit 2 (W2)

Bit W2 slightly rotates on to the edges of the tongue and sits solidly across the bars and lips of the horse’s mouth. The port is narrower than a Bit W3 mouthpiece, but still offers room for the horse’s tongue to pass under the bit. Because the port is narrow, when the reins are engaged, the horse will feel a slight pressure on the outside edges of the tongue — a gentle reminder rather than a strong reprimand. The port on this mouthpiece is only ¾” high, so it will apply little to no palate pressure. Sweet Iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation.

The shank is a length of flat stainless steel curved slightly back towards the horse, with a teardrop purchase and a rein ring. The mouthpiece has a fixed attachment to the cheek with a decorative “stack.” The shank is decorated with stainless steel dots. The purchase is angled slightly away from the cheek to avoid rubbing. This special Myler Design has the patented Independent Swivel Cheek, where the purchase, mouthpiece and shank all move independently of each other.

The flat shank cheekpiece is an indirect (curb) rein action designed to be used with a curb strap which attaches to the purchase. The BIT W2 uses the combination of fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin and poll.

Rotation Limiter: The barrel in this bit features a unique limiter inside that restricts the shanks to approximately a 3-inch swing or lift. This innovative design is particularly beneficial as you progress towards finesse and precision in your riding. By limiting the independent side movement, the bit promotes steady, clear communication with your horse. This allows for more accurate cues and a stronger connection between horse and rider, ultimately leading to a harmonious partnership and enhanced performance.
